Logging your effort (RPE)
Rate how tough practice or a match was – the 1 to 10 scale, sets played, and where to enter your RPE.
After every practice and match, VolleyFit asks how tough it was. This rating is called RPE (rate of perceived exertion). The app uses it to calculate your load.
The 1 to 10 scale
You choose a whole number from 1 (very easy) to 10 (maximal). There’s no 0. The app shows a short description for each value:
| RPE | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 1 | Very easy – barely any effort |
| 2 | Easy – relaxed activity |
| 3 | Light to moderate |
| 4 | Moderate – pleasantly demanding |
| 5 | Hard – noticeably demanding |
| 6 | Fairly hard |
| 7 | Heavy – only short conversations possible |
| 8 | Very heavy – at the limit |
| 9 | Near maximum |
| 10 | Maximum – total exhaustion |
The RPE prompt after an event
If you accepted a practice or match, a window opens automatically once the event has started: How tough was your training? or How tough was your game?
- Choose a value from 1 to 10.
- Matches only: enter how much you played (see below). This is required.
- Tap Save.
How the prompt works:
- It appears for practices and matches you accepted that started within the last 30 hours – not for other kinds of events.
- You can dismiss it. It then comes back the next time you open the app, as long as no RPE has been logged.
- Don’t show again turns off the automatic prompt. You can switch it back on under Settings → Dashboard widgets (entry RPE reminder).
On top of that, you’ll get a notification such as “How was your training?” roughly one to two hours after the end if you haven’t logged anything yet. You can turn this notification on or off under Settings → Notifications with RPE reminder.
Sets played in matches
For a match, what counts is how long you were on court:
- Volleyball: the app asks How many sets did you play? You choose 0 to 5. Each set counts as 30 minutes.
- Other sports: the app asks How many minutes were you on the field? (0 to 600 minutes).
For practices you don’t need to enter a time – the event’s duration is used.
Logging RPE on the event page
Missed the prompt? Open the event under Events. Once it has started, a row with the values 1 to 10 appears in your participation row. Tap a value to save it.
This only works within a certain time window:
- from the start of the event at the earliest,
- until the end of the following day at the latest,
- and only if you accepted.
Otherwise the app shows a message such as “RPE can only be entered on the event day and the following day”.
What happens with your RPE
VolleyFit uses RPE and duration to calculate the session load:
Load = RPE × minutes
So a 90-minute practice at RPE 7 gives 630. A volleyball match with 3 sets at RPE 8 gives 3 × 30 × 8 = 720.
If you don’t log an RPE, the app estimates it: 6 for a practice, 8 for a match. Your own values make your load much more accurate, though.
How the load turns into the ACWR and what the zones mean is explained in Understanding load & ACWR.
RPE for other sessions
- Workouts are rated at the end of the workout – see Completing workouts.
- Your own sessions outside your team, such as a run or a match for another club, go into the training diary.
Your load data counts as health data. Who can see it is explained in Health data and consent.
